Choosing The Right Eyeglasses

Your eyeglasses are an important part of your daily life. They help you see clearly and perform your best at work, school, and home. But with all of the different styles, materials, and technologies available, how do you know which pair of eyeglasses is right for you? Our team at 20/20 Vision Care in Pearl can help you determine your face shape and find the right frames for you.

Frame Material

The most common materials used for eyeglass frames are metal, plastic, and titanium. Metal frames are usually made of monel, a nickel-coated alloy that is strong and corrosion-resistant. Plastic frames are made of acetate, a lightweight and durable material that is available in a wide variety of colors and patterns. Titanium frames are extremely strong and lightweight but can be more expensive than other types of frames.

Frame Shape and Size

Eyeglass frames come in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit different facial structures. For example, people with round faces should choose glasses with square or rectangular lenses to make their faces look longer. People with oval faces can wear almost any type of glasses because this shape is considered balanced and proportional. People with heart-shaped faces should choose glasses that highlight their eyes and minimize the width of their forehead.

Lens Type

There are four main types of lenses: single vision, bifocal, and trifocal. Single vision lenses have one prescription for both nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Bifocal lenses have two prescriptions—one for distance and one for reading—in the same lens. Trifocal lenses have three prescriptions in the same lens—one for distance, one for intermediate vision, and one for reading—with each prescription separated by a small line. A Progressive lens is know as a no line bifocal, giving you all the ranges without the lines separating them.

Get Regular Eye Exams

Even if your vision is perfect, it’s important to get regular eye exams at least once every year since they can help detect early signs of eye problems or disease. If you do wear glasses, be sure to bring them with you to your appointments so that our team can perform a thorough eye examination.
